Apple unveils budget 16GB iPod Touch

Apple has just quietly launched a budget-friendly new iPod touch: a 16GB model, with a 4-inch Retina display and a price tag of $229. The device is a stripped-down version of the current fifth generation model, losing its 5-megapixel back-facing camera and coming with 16GB memory.

Most specs remain the same, including the 4-inch Retina display, dual-core A5 processor and front-facing FaceTime HD camera. The dimensions are also the same as its predecessor, but it's lost a little weight, around 0.06 ounces. There is no rear-facing camera at all, however, and Apple has also omitted the "loop" lanyard hook. The new 16GB iPod touch is available to order now for $229 in a single black and silver design

Apple says it will ship within 24 hours.
