People’s Daily in Beijing ‘Erects’ New Headquarters

The new Beijing headquarters of the People’s Daily newspaper got its fair share of funny comments and ridicule recently, when people realized their new headquarters building looked pretty similar to something else.
Photos of the building that is still under construction are being laughed at by the people, especially because it somehow followed the weird structure of the CCTV headquarters that is commonly dubbed as the “big underpants”.
Of course, comments of people about the building being ridiculous made the Chinese censors unhappy. Keywords like “People’s Daily” or “building” resulted to null searches. Instead the message “In accordance with relevant laws, regulations and policies, search results cannot be displayed” is displayed.
However, some double meaning comments managed to get through the Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter.
“Of course the national mouthpiece should be imposing.”
“It seems the People’s Daily is going to rise up, there’s hope for the Chinese dream.”
